Srisailam at a glance, and the road to it

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism page for Nandyal district places Srisailam about 264 km from Vijayawada, at over 1,500 ft in the northern Nallamala hills. Actual road distance depends on the approach you take, and our driving-time estimate is roughly 5.5 to 7 hours each way including a tea break, longer on festival or weekend days.

Check current road and forest-route conditions before you travel. Forest sections on the approach roads have had traffic restrictions in the past, so ask for the current position and avoid planning arrival or departure around late-night driving. For the route options and a general planning guide, read our Srisailam tour planning guide; this page focuses on the two trip plans.

The temples and what they mean to devotees

Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple is listed among the twelve Jyotirlingas, and the official district tourism description notes a temple structure built in the 14th century, with walls carved with elephants, hunting scenes and forms of Shiva. The presiding deity is Brahmaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy, shown in a natural stone lingam.

Sri Bhramaramba Devi temple is the shrine of the goddess in the same complex area and is regarded as one of the Shakti Peethas. Devotees commonly visit both on one trip, which is why this page builds both into each plan.

Preparing for the visit

  • The Srisailam Devasthanam official website offers online booking for accommodation and sevas. Check it for current darshan arrangements, ticket types and rules for your date.
  • We have not listed timings, ticket prices or dress rules because they change and we could not verify them. Treat any timing you read elsewhere, including on this page, as something to confirm officially.
  • Carry ID, water, a light snack, and footwear that is easy to remove. Weekends, holidays and festivals such as Maha Shivaratri bring long queues.

Nearby places worth considering

The district tourism page lists several places around Srisailam. Access, visiting hours and crowding vary, and some may be impractical on a one-day trip, so we treat them as optional.

  2. About 8:00 amBreakfast and a rest stop on the way.
  3. About 10:30–11:30 amArrive at Srisailam, park and walk to the temple area.
  4. Late morning to early afternoonMallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Devi darshan. Queue time can range from short to several hours.
  5. AfternoonLunch. If time and energy remain, add one optional stop such as Sakshi Ganapati or Pala Dhara–Pancha Dhara.
